WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY
Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary therapy. It is based on the system of zones and reflex areas on the feet, face or hands, that reflect an image of the body. By applying gentle pressure, it helps release any blockages along the energy pathways and stimulates the flow of energy to the corresponding body part. This stimulates the body’s ability to heal itself, physically, emotionally and helps to restore balance of the body.
BENEFITS OF REFLEXOLOGY
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is very rigid in what we can say about the efficacy of reflexology, however we can say that it can:
- Release tension
- Relaxation
- Improved mood
- Aids sleep
- Balance the body, mind and spirit
In pregnancy, recent studies have shown that reflexology:
- Significantly reduced pain during labour
- Reduced length of the first stage of labour
- Improved quality of sleep in post-natal women
- Reduced pain and stress levels for women with low back pain or pelvic girdle pain
- Lowers anxiety scores of women in labour
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
A course of foot or facial treatments is recommended to give the body the best chance to 'reboot' and start to heal. An average course of 6-8 treatments depending on the condition, is recommended, however this is a guidance only and usually many of my clients start to feel improvements after 4 regular, mostly weekely, treatments.
Alternatively, the occasional treatment can also be used as an extremely relaxing alternative to a full body massage.
